Waiting Well: Fighting to Remember God's Faithfulness

Brielle, our little miracle

It’s funny how quickly we forget.

We forget the morning sickness after we have the baby.

We forget the resume building after landing that dream job.

We forget the exhausting house search once we’re all moved in.

We forget the months and months and months of waiting after our child’s adoption is finalized.

Forgetting can be a reward after a hard-fought wait, but lately, I’ve been trying to remember. I am craving remembrance and concrete memories because we’re waiting.

Right now, our wait for the phone to ring with a match for our family with the most amazing and loved South Korean is grueling. (If you don't know our current adoption story, you can check it out here.) We may be halfway through the wait, but we may not be. It’s really just a big ‘ole guess. Timelines keep moving and we just keep standing here faithfully in line waiting for our child.

So, for today, I want to remember.

I want to remember walking off the plane with Brielle and the cardiologist appointment that deemed her healthy.

I want to remember the celebration and hugging that happened when we told our parents about adoption #2.

I want to remember the fundraisers thrown by our church family and friends that showed us that our child is already loved and we aren’t alone in this journey.

I want to remember my husband’s desire for twins and the surprise paperwork that shows we’re approved for two. (Lord, have mercy. Remember that boring life I wanted??? No, I’m not saying we’re getting twins but I’m also not saying we’re not. Our agency said it’s rare, so…)

I want to remember the prayers whispered at night for our “little guy in South Korea.”

I have had a front row seat to God’s faithfulness time and time again. I don’t want to forget. It’s what makes me wait well. It’s what keeps my eyes straight forward and movements steady. I’ve seen Him do it, and I know He’ll do it again.

For today, and all the tomorrows until the phone rings, I will fight to remember.
